Feature & Follow #9

Friday 26 June 2015

Feature and Follow is a weekly feature hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read.
The aim is to make new friends in the book blogging community and discover new blogs.
Question of the week:
Is there a book that you were required to read in school that you actually loved?
Suggested by Natalie Hearts Books.
We read The Catcher in the Rye in my early years of high school and I really enjoyed it. I can remember reading other books in school beforehand that I liked too but unfortunately I can't remember the names of them. Which is actually quite annoying as I'd like to see them again just for nostalgia reasons!

Did you have to read a book in school that you ended up loving?

  1. I didn't get the chance to read that in school, but I do have it and I hope to get around to reading it someday.

  2. I have never read The Catcher in the Rye. Which to me, I feel is really weird, because it seems like The Catcher in the Rye is such a common required reading book for schools. I really enjoyed The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. We read the play version of this, but I really enjoyed The Miracle Worker. I think partially due to the fact we each had our own parts to read, so it was really interactive. Also, we had a project where we had to use sign language to have a conversation with our partner in front of the class. Literally so much fun! Unfortunately, I have forgotten most of the sign movements for the alphabet. Super fun, and awesome memories :)

    1. It does seem to be a favourite in schools. I read The Book Thief a few years ago and really enjoyed it! I would have loved to have had a book like that in school for English. A play sounds like a really great thing to do too, having parts to play sounds like fun! Sign language sounds like a cool project too! I learned the alphabet when I was a kid and it's all I know too haha but I'd love to learn more.

      Thanks for following! :)

  3. I remember a lot of people enjoying this one. Sadly it wasn't for me. I can't remember everything that I had to read, but I know I pretty much disliked them all. There was only one book forced upon me that I actually enjoyed! It was the first and last one! Come check my FF to see what it is! ;)

    1. Aww sorry to hear that! I do wish there was more variety in the books that kids are made to read in school. I'm coming to see what book you loved! :P

  4. I remember that book! I liked it, and my sister actually just read it for her high school English class! That was one of the few books that I actually read in my English class. I didn't read most of the books I had to. Old follower!

    1. It seems to be getting mixed reviews! Some people liked it and others didn't. I think I read all the ones we had to but probably skimmed parts of the less exciting ones!

  8. I can't remember if that book was ever assigned to us. I'm not even sure if I've read it.

  9. Hopping through. I was not a fan of Catcher in the Rye. I wonder if I'd like it better if I re-read it.

    1. That's an interesting point actually, I wonder if I would still like it now if I reread it.
