6 Reading Goals for 2016

Wednesday 6 January 2016

The only reading challenge I set for myself in 2015 was the Goodreads challenge. I pledged to read 100 books and successfully completed that in December, yay! This year I have a few goals in mind to try and keep things interesting.

  1. Read 50 books. I'm aiming for a smaller number this year so I'm not always thinking about numbers. I just want to be able to chill and enjoy the books I want to read when I want.
  2. Re-read the Harry Potter series. This is something I've wanted to do for a long time as I haven't read the series properly since I was a kid. It's my favourite series and I'm excited to see what I can get from it as an adult.
  3. Only request an ARC if it's a book that I really, really want to read. I've had a bad habit of requesting books that sound interesting and end up falling behind with reviews. As with goal one, I'm really aiming to be more chilled this year.
  4. Read more of the books that I already own rather than focusing on new releases. This is going to be tough considering all the new releases I already want to read!
  5. Read the series' that I've had my eye on for a long time. I really want to read Falling Kingdoms, The Raven Boys, The Young Elites, Snow Like Ashes and The Sin Eater's Daughter. They have been patiently waiting for a while now!
  6. Take part in more buddy/group reads. I've enjoyed the ones I've done before as I love having other people to discuss the book with so I hope to do a lot more this year.

What are your reading goals for 2016? Let me know!

  1. These are all great goals! I haven't been doing much rereading lately, so I'll have to think about rereading one of my favorite series.
I definitely get what you're saying! I've been meaning to read the Falling Kingdoms series since the first book came out. Have I read it yet? NO. And Snow Like Ashes sounds great, too!
I would absolutely recommend The Young Elites! It's one of my favorites.
And I love buddy reads too. I definitely want to do more this year.
I hope you can reach all of your goals!

    1. Thank you! Rereading is not something that I normally do but I've been wanting to do it with Harry Potter for so long now!
I know what you mean, the list just keeps getting longer and longer of series that I want to start!
The Young Elites is definitely up the top of my list! I own the book too so it fits with one of my other goals too!
      Thank you! :)

  2. Nice! My Goodreads goal for 2016 is 40 books, which is the same as last year. I would make it higher, but I struggled with reaching my goal at the last minute, and I even had a Brit Lit class where I was required to read a lot! XD I also want to do more buddy reads and be more involved on social media with chats and readathons.

    1. 40 books is a nice challenge! I was struggling with mine a little towards the end of the year too. I hope you reach it this year! :D I'm definitely trying to be more active on social media too, I want to take part in things a lot more!

  3. These are great goals! I really like the idea of re-reading Harry Potter, it's something I've been meaning to do for a couple of years too. I may find time towards the end of this year - if I'm lucky!

I'm also definitely focusing on books I already own this year. I have a whole bookcase full of unread books so I want to try to make a dent in it. There's also so many series that I need to start. My time at university stopped me reading, but unfortunately it didn't stop me buying.

    1. Thank you! I hope you find time for Harry Potter! I kept putting it off last year but I'm determined to fit it in this year!

I know exactly what you mean, I barely read at all during my time at university and I've been really making up for that ever since haha. Hopefully we can both make a good dent in our unread books!

  4. SO MANY GOALS! If you want, we can do a buddy read with Harry Potter? That way you can knock both of those out at the same time? I've been meaning to read some of the books you've mentioned sns have been wanting to read/rewatch all the movies. It'll really be different reading them as adults! ♡♡

    1. Oohh a buddy read for Harry Potter sounds perfect! I'm definitely up for that :D
I'm so excited to see what things I pick up this time around that I probably missed as a kid. Perfect excuse for rewatching the movies too! <3
