Book one of the A Court of Thorns and Roses series
This is pure perfection. I was expecting something special and I was not disappointed. It was so much more than what I expected or imagined. Just so so good.
I already have a bit of a soft spot for the story Beauty and the Beast and this just took it to a whole other level.
After Feyre's family lost their wealth, she was forced to assume responsibility for their wellbeing and spend her time hunting to feed them despite their ungratefulness. She then makes the mistake of killing a faerie disguised as a wolf and must pay for her error.
Feyre is an incredibly strong heroine. She was resilient and didn't cower in the face of danger. She stood up for what she believes in does all she can to protect herself and the ones she loves. She doesn't have an easy time with it either and has to make extremely difficult decisions.
Tamlin is a character who you should be prepared to swoon over. He's complicated, sometimes grumpy and sometimes frustrating, but he is also hot and sensual.
The world-building was fantastic. It's not rushed and the information is filtered through in a way that you can really take it all in and understand it. The writing is also truly great. I had to take my time reading this because I wanted to savour all of the rich descriptions.
There is action, plot twists, riddles and a fascinating character who you will begin to love despite initial impressions.
The ending wraps things up nicely but there are also enough questions left for an equally intriguing and heart-racing sequel. It's going to be a long wait!
